A. We currently support T-Mobile, Cingular, and AT&T. Verizon and Sprint don't currently allow third-party binary content to be delivered to their subscribers.

Q. How much will it cost me to get a Start Mobile wallpaper on my mobile phone?
A. Each wallpaper will be billed to your cell phone bill at $1.99. All other messages sent and received are billed at standard text messaging rates. Wallpapers are delivered via WAP links which require internet access on your phone. Internet access, also known as a data plan, generally carries a monthly fee. Please check your wireless plan for more information.

Q. What kinds of messages will I get?
A. You will be asked to confirm your purchase, and after doing so, you will receive a message that provides a link to the wallpaper you purchased.

back

Q. How often will I receive messages?
A. You will receive messages only as a result of ordering a wallpaper via this website, to confirm your intent to purchase. There is no ongoing messaging associated with Start Mobile at this time.

Q. How does the purchase process work?
A. You begin the purchase process by choosing a wallpaper and submitting the form with your cell phone information. You will then receive an SMS message informing you that you will be charged for the wallpaper, and asking you to reply 'Y' to confirm the charge. After confirming the charge, you will receive a WAP message, which may arrive in a different inbox on your phone. This message, when opened, will connect you to a WAP page, where you can download your wallpaper. After you've successfully connected to download the wallpaper, you will receive a final billing confirmation message informing you that you have been charged. If you do not connect to download the wallpaper, you will not be charged.

Q. I replied 'Y' to confirm my purchase, but I can't find the WAP message to download the wallpaper. Where is it?
A. WAP messages are often delivered to a different inbox than SMS messages, and you don't always get an alert from your phone when you receive one. Common names for WAP message inboxes are Service Messages, Service Inbox, or Browser Messages. If you have trouble locating your WAP message, check your mobile phone manufacturer's documentation for instructions.

Q. I received a confirmation that I was billed, but I can't find the wallpaper on my phone. Where is it?
A. Check your mobile phone manufacturer's documentation for instructions on where to find files you've downloaded.

Q. What is a data plan and why do I need one?
A. A data plan gives you the ability to access internet content from your mobile device. Wallpapers are delivered to you via WAP messages, which require internet access on your phone. Each carrier has a different brand name for their internet data products. For example, Cingular refers to their data product as MediaNet and AT&T refers to their data product as mMode. T-Mobile offers a free service called T-Zones that is not the same thing as a data plan. It allows access to content T-Mobile sells, but will not allow you to access the WAP page required to download the wallpapers offered on Start Mobile. T-Mobile customers can, however, upgrade their T-Zones in order to have web access.

Q. Why does the image need to be sent via WAP? Why can't you just deliver the image directly to my phone?
A. U.S. carriers do not allow delivery of "binary content" (i.e. wallpapers) over a shortcode. If you buy something directly from the carrier, they may deliver that content to you via a shortcode, but they do not allow third-party vendors to do that. Instead, we have to offer you a link to a website where you can download the image -- this link comes to you in a WAP message. Web access is required in order to access this link.

Q. I have a Treo or Blackberry -- can I purchase wallpapers from Start Mobile?
A. Yes, we have implemented functionality that enables you to enjoy Start Mobile wallpapers on your phone. When you receive the confirmation SMS message, reply with "T" instead of "Y." This will trigger a second SMS message that includes the URL for your wallpaper. Navigate to this URL in your web browser, and you should be able to download the wallpaper from there..
